1999 Plymouth Prowler

Introduced as a concept vehicle at the 1993 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Prowler was a radical departure for Chrysler Corporation. Its modernized hot-rod styling may have created a sensation, but beneath that captivating exterior, the Prowler was a purposeful technology demonstrator with extensive use of lightweight aluminum structures and components, perfect weight distribution with the rear mounted, 4-speed AutoStick transmission, and a racing-style suspension featuring aluminum front A-arms, inboard Koni coilover shocks, and vented 4-wheel disc brakes. Spurred by unsolicited deposits from hopeful buyers, the Prowler’s production run eventually commenced for 1997 with the vehicle badged a Plymouth. This example Plymouth Prowler is one of just 3,921 examples built for the 1999 model year. It also features heightened performance over the inaugural 1997 Prowler models with its 1999-specification 3.5-liter SOHC High Output V-6 engine now made entirely of aluminum and uprated for better performance with 253 HP on tap and the exhaust system carefully re-tuned for a more authoritative sound. Built in December 1998 at the New Mack Development Center housed at Chrysler’s Conner Avenue, Detroit Assembly Plant, this 1999 Plymouth Prowler features an unforgettable Black-on-Black combination including a factory-specified Prowler Black clear coat paint finish over Agate leather trimmed bucket seats. Delivered new to California via Chrysler’s Los Angeles zone office (Zone 71), the Prowler was subsequently located in Michigan and Ohio prior to being imported to Canada in mid-2005. Features and options are many, including air conditioning, a digital factory AM-FM Cassette stereo system and in-dash, 6-disc CD changer, plus power brakes, locks, mirrors, steering and windows, a center console, a classic-style tachometer to the upper steering column, and chrome dual exhaust tips. Factory chrome wheels measure 17 inches in diameter up front and 20 inches rear, for that classic “big ‘n little" hot rod look. Styling is clean with the front bumpers deleted and replaced by neat fairings housing the turn-signal indicators, with the rear bumpers removed and stowed inside the trunk. Indicated mileage is 19154 miles at the time of writing. Documents include the 1999 Plymouth Prowler Owner’s Manual inside the factory vinyl document pouch, plus a 2015-dated CarProof report confirming its history prior history.
