Mildly updated for 1971, Ford’s powerful and luxurious Thunderbird bridged the gap between Ford/Mercury and Lincoln. Built at the dedicated Wixom, Michigan Thunderbird plant, this outstanding 2-door Hardtop is highly original, very well-preserved, and clearly benefits from enthusiastic prior ownership and care. Sporting a high-quality refinish in Body Tag-correct Medium Bright Aqua Metallic paint, the Thunderbird also features an original-appearing Black interior with a split front bench seat with adjustable seatbacks, a front fold-down armrest, and a unique and inviting wraparound rear seat. Power is delivered by an N-Code 429 Thunderjet V-8 engine factory-rated at 360 horsepower – from the final run before Ford’s engine lines were streamlined and downrated for 1972. According to the Body Tag, the Thunderbird was delivered via Ford’s New York D.S.O. and factory-equipped with a C-6 3-speed automatic transmission and highway-friendly 2.75:1 rear axle. Additional hallmarks of this Thunderbird’s quality include the very good chrome and brightwork, the textured Black vinyl roof covering, and complete OEM Carlite scripted glass. Among its many features and amenities, this Thunderbird includes factory A/C with the original compressor, flow-through fresh air ventilation, power-assisted brakes and steering, an OEM AM/FM stereo radio, a remote driver’s side mirror, and power windows. The unrestored and well-preserved trunk compartment retains the factory cardboard side panels and includes a mounted spare wheel/tire, roadside jack and wheel tools. Thunderbird OEM wire-basket wheel covers are currently mounted and a set of four bright factory wheel covers are also included. The battery was replaced during 2002, with the warranty receipt included.
