1931 Ford Model A Deluxe Roadster

The December 1927 introduction of the Ford Model A marks one of the most significant and successful turnarounds in automotive history. While industry watchers criticized Henry Ford for continuing production of the dated Model T, he ordered a factory shutdown in June 1927 and when the new Model A debuted several months later, it drew buyers with its Lincoln-inspired styling, enlarged 200 cubic-inch, 40-horsepower 4-cylinder engine, conventional three-speed transmission, 4-wheel brakes, and other class-leading features. Departing even further from the Model T, the Model A was available in a choice of several paint colors. Priced from just $460, the Model A was initially available in 9 body types and by the end of its run in 1931, 21 body styles were offered, with the sporty Roadster the most highly sought-after by today’s collectors and enthusiasts.

Formerly owned by a past president of the Oakleaf Region (Oakland County, Michigan) Model A Restorers Club, this 1931 Ford Model A Roadster continues to benefit handsomely from a detailed high-quality restoration. Finished in factory-correct Stone Brown with Black fenders, this Model A is accented by a Blue accent rib, Tacoma Cream wire wheels, 1930s-style Whitewall tires, and Brown upholstery to the bench seat and rumble seat. A simple, easy-clean OEM-type rubber mat covers the floors. Accessories are numerous, including Ford’s Quail radiator mascot, exclusive to the 1928-31 Model A. Other desirable features include a driver’s side spare wheel and tire including a chrome mirror secured by a leather strap, dual cowl lamps, a swing-out windshield, wind wings, a running board-mounted accessory fuel/oil can holder, a jaunty rumble seat with step plates, a rear luggage trunk, and twin brake lights. Added turn-signal indicators and seat belts enhance touring safety.

Powering the Model A is a proper 200 cubic-inch “flathead" 4-cylinder engine paired with a floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. The engine compartment is in very tidy restored condition, with correct accessories and components in place, including a fascinating Ford-scripted heater shroud surrounding the exhaust manifold.
